Every NEW Area in Elden Ring DLC, So Far. - Elden Ring Lore
By: Ziostorm
Ziostorm breaks down every new area we can see so far in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Ever since the release of the Elden Ring DLC Gameplay trailer, we have been speculating about the story and the potential lore elements that will likely make an appearance. However, today, it's time to get a bit more grounded. The DLC Gameplay trailer revealed numerous new areas that we will be able to explore, and we've yet to fully delve into this aspect. From open fields to legacy dungeons and everything in between, the upcoming expansion promises a rich landscape. Let's join Ziostorm as he meticulously dissects the trailer and analyzes every new area we can identify, positioning it on the map, and exploring this from a fresh perspective.
We begin our journey with the open field. The opening shot of the Land of Shadow introduces us to a vast, expansive open world area. This wheat field, dotted with phantom gravestones, was our first glimpse of the DLC in the concept art. It's now confirmed to be an open field, thanks to the collector's edition of the DLC recently unveiled by Bandai Namco. However, it's important to remember that the DLC isn't expected to follow the same formula as the base game, where areas are distinctly divided into fields and dungeons. Instead, we can expect a more seamless integration of these areas, which creates a challenge when trying to pinpoint exact locations.
The Elden Ring DLC journey seems filled with numerous structures that could each be their own miniature levels. This gives us a sense of just how vast the game's universe is going to be and how much more is hidden from sight by the towering cliffs.
The trailer also introduces us to a legacy dungeon, where we get a glimpse of the architectural motifs that are commonly seen in the lion dance boss fight. The dungeon appears to be floating off into the sky, much like Farum Azula. Another area that caught his attention is a heavily wooded, green area with a large Pantheon-like structure, which looks big enough to be its own open field.
The trailer also reveals some underground locations, like a cave filled with Trina's lilies and a purple hue, which may be the same area where an NPC is found sleeping among a bunch of Trina's lilies. There's also a shot inside another cave with hanging pots and a blue hue.
Finally, the trailer gives us a peek into a swamp and a purple-hazy town with incense burners releasing smoke into the air. The unique aspect of this town is the tarps covering the buildings, which hint at the possibility of multiple such towns covered in a similar fashion.
